Arcana Chance is a special event in Persona 4 which occurs after a successful Shuffle Time (including Blank Cards). Arcana Chance will bestow certain affects, depending on the alignment of the Arcana Card; 'Upright' results in a positive effect, while 'Reverse' yields a negative effect.
Generally, the effect will last through 3-5 separate occurrences from which its conditions were triggered (i.e. successfully completing a battle or Shuffle Time sequence), otherwise the effect will wear off after a prolonged period of time. Temporary effects will be replaced by any subsequent temporary Arcana Chance effects.

Effect Explanations
- Magician
The Magician Arcana Chance will permanently upgrade or downgrade one random Skill from one of the protagonists' random Personas. Skill upgrades will most often affect a single-target Skill, upgrading it to a multi-target Skill (or vice-versa with the Reverse effect).
Below is a list of Skills that can be upgraded (the Arcana Card effect will not take place if the protagonist is not carrying a Persona with a modifiable Skill):
- Cleave -> Fatal End -> Blade of Fury -> Deathbound -> Tempest Slash
- Bash -> Assault Dive -> Kill Rush -> Gigantic Fist -> Heat Wave -> God's Hand
- Torrent Shot -> Arrow Rain -> Myriad Arrows
- Agi -> Maragi

- Hierophant
The Hierophant effect lasts only until the next Arcana Card is played out. This means that the effect of the newly drawn Arcana Card will replace the effect of the Hierophant as normal. Note that the upright Hierophant does not guarantee that the next Arcana Card will end up in the upright position.
