Atlus Co., Ltd. is a Japanese entertainment software developer and publisher best known for developing the role-playing series Shin Megami Tensei and its numerous spin-offs. As of September 2013, Atlus is a subsidiary of Sega.


Atlus was founded on April 7, 1986. Aside from developing and publishing software, Atlus also develops, sells, leases, and provides maintenance services for game machines for amusement facilities including Print Club which prints out instant picture stickers. The company also manages Game Panic, Amusement Land Mu-Tairiku, and has developed Atlus Vegas in the virtual world of Second Life.

Atlus was owned by Index Corporation, which filed for bankruptcy in June 2013 after suffering heavy debts. On September 2013, Sega has acquired Index Corporation, and as a result owns Atlus and all video game IPs under the developer.[1] Atlus has since been registered as a company on April 1, 2014 under Sega.[2]

The corporate mascot is Jack Frost, designed by illustrator Kazuma Kaneko, from Shin Megami Tensei.

Atlus USA, Inc.Edit

Atlus USA, Inc. is an American video game publisher headquartered in Irvine, California that publishes games created by Atlus Co., Ltd. and other developers. Originally established in 1991 as Asuka, Atlus USA, Inc. is strictly a publisher and has published games for every major video game console and handheld system. Under Index Corporation, Atlus USA was known as Index Digital Media. After the acquisition by Sega, the division was renamed to Atlus USA.
