Excellus is a character from Fire Emblem Awakening. He is a tactician in the employ of the warlord Walhart, who aims to conquer the continent of Valm through military might. However, the extent of Excellus's actual tactical prowess is limited; he instead exerts control over Walhart's adversaries through blackmail, threats, and similar strategies. His loyalty toward Walhart is also suspect, as he is also a member of the Grimleal cult and accepts a proposal from Aversa that would reward him with the throne of Plegia if he could take the Fire Emblem from Chrom.
Eventually, Chrom's forces and their superior diplomacy and tactics overwhelm Excellus's underhanded strategies. With his campaign threatening to end in failure, Walhart reveals he had learned of Excellus's treachery and forces the exposed tactician to enter the field of battle against the Ylissian army himself. Excellus dies in the ensuing combat.
Excellus appears as an enemy Mirage and boss. He regards humans as pawns in his game. He's a coward who will do anything to accomplish his goals. He's attracted to Tsubasa's qualities. When defeated, he will drop the Performa materials Scheming Insight and Master Seal.
Along with Garrick, Aversa and Gangrel, he is later fought again during chapter 6 in Illusory Dolhr. In both battles, Excellus has five different forms with their own weaknesses and resistances. He has 200 attack and 68 armor.
Despite being a male, Excellus has a more feminine appearance, including having breasts in their Mirage form. This is because in the Japanese version, Excellus uses female pronouns and is referred to as an okama, much like Lala Escargot.
Excellus resembles a Recognizer from the 1982 movie Tron.
Excellus is the only Mirage boss to not physically appear until his tie with his Master is severed. Instead, he talks through Tarachino. This was probably made to emphasize his cowardice.
