Personality[]
Yumi possesses a down-to-earth nature and acts quickly upon the school's transportation to the demon world. Reflecting this is her route's relative simplicity and straight forward objective. Though she cares very much for her school and its student body she can be very rough, referring to Reiko Akanezawa as a "stuck-up little princess" and is at times something of a bully.

Shin Megami Tensei: if...[]
Yumi Shirakawa is the first character that can be recruited in the game. She is a classmate that the protagonist meets right after they leave the classroom, once Karukozaka High is transported to the Expanse. Should the protagonist accept her, they will be locked onto her path and will go through the worlds of the Expanse, eventually defeating Hazama in his Emperor form without learning of his past. She seems to care about her school, wishing to save everyone inside it. Her path, up until the first battle with Hazama, is identical to Reiko's.
Kahn[]
Yumi is one of the two survivors of the incident at Karukozaka. In the canon of Shin Megami Tensei Kahn, during the Karukozaka High School incident in the Expanse, she awakens to the Guardian ability upon death, her Guardian being Valkyrie. She's transferred to another school and appears to be trying to move on with her life when Ambassador Thorman's forces attempt to abduct her. During the attack, she calls upon her Guardian to help her, now having taken the form of Angel. She appears to have strong magical powers that resonate with the sealing stone of Amatsugami.
Further along in the story, she unseals the Sword of Hi-no-Kagutsuchi which causes the Chaos to be freed, and the world is destroyed in the blast. Thirty years pass and the story resumes as Nobu is brought to this future, in which Yumi has reincarnated as a Messian named Sarah, accompanied by a warrior named Mayne. Although Sarah does not retain her Guardian abilities nor her memories, Sarah is capable of wielding strong magic just like Yumi.
It is revealed throughout Shin Megami Tensei Kahn's plot that Nobu and Yumi have been reincarnating since ancient times, fighting an entity known as the Chaos, and sealing it through the sacrifice of Yumi and the power of the sword of Hi-no-Kagutsuchi. In the story's conclusion, Nobu is able to reach into Sarah and connect with Yumi, together they are able to defeat the resurrected Thorman.

Like the other partners, Yumi uses the same formula to calculate her HP as the protagonist, which is determined by their gender. This can make the game somewhat more difficult if the female route is chosen.
