In Japanese belief, the Kushi Mitama is an aspect of the human soul known as the "wondrous soul," which appears together with Saki Mitama, the providing soul, which is the power behind the harvest. It is believed to have mysterious powers, to cause transformations and to be able to cure illnesses, as according to Shinto belief.
"One of the four aspects of the human soul, as described in Shinto teachings. It is said to bring good luck in the areas of health and medicine."
—Shin Megami Tensei III: Nocturne profile
Kusi Mitama is the third demon of the Mitama race and can be obtained either by fusing the Element race demons Erthys and Flaemis or by purchasing it at Rag's Jewelry in Ginza for one Jade stone and one Opal. A higher level Kusi Mitama can be purchased with multiple stones. Unlike other demons, fusing Kusi Mitama with another demon will power up that demon, with some restrictions. The demon being powered up must have available skill slots to receive skills from Kusi Mitama and cannot have its stats boosted more than double its base stats, depending on the demon's level. Kusi Mitama will increase the Vitality and Agility stats of a demon during fusion.
Kusi Mitama can only be obtained through fusion or by trading in jewels at Rag's Jewelry. By using an Kusi Mitama in the initial mitama fusion, a demon's post-mitama growth bonuses will focus on Speed, Intelligence and Magic.
Shin Megami Tensei: Strange Journey[]
"One of the four great aspects of Shinto thought, it uses its power to bring good omens. It is said to aid in one's wisdom, skill, and observation, and can mend fractured paths."
—Shin Megami Tensei: Strange Journey compendium
Kusi Mitama is the second highest level Mitama in the game and can be obtained by fusing two Prime race demons. Using Kusi Mitama in a fusion will boost a demon's Vitality and Agility stats, along with transferring over useful skills.
Shin Megami Tensei IV[]
Kusi Mitama, along with Saki Mitama, appears primarily in the DLC Challenge QuestExperience of the Afterlife, and appear as a rare encounter with every Mitama in the DLC quests Underworld Money-Maker and Death Has Its Applications. They drop Light Grimoire and Heavy Grimoire, which give Flynn or any of his demons enough EXP to gain a level after 6 uses and 1 use, respectively.
Kusi Mitama can be affected by the Sleep ailment in battle.
Shin Megami Tensei IV Apocalypse[]
Kushi Mitama appears primary in the DLC Challenge Quest "A Godslayer Needs Items," and appears as a rare encounter in the DLC quests "A Godslayer Needs Levels," "A Godslayer Needs Macca" and "A Godslayer Needs Apps." They primarily drop and trade Incense, mostly HP, MP and Ma Incense, and rarely Bead Chains, Balms of Rising and Garnets.
Kushi Mitama is largely resistant to most damage types, but vulnerable to Physical attack and Gun skills. Almighty damage is virtually nulled.
Shin Megami Tensei V[]
"One of the four great aspects of Shinto thought, it uses its power to bring good omens. It is said to aid in one's wisdom, observation, and skill, and can also mend fractured paths."
—Shin Megami Tensei V lore
Kushi Mitama is an unrecruitable demon that can be found all over Da'at. Like the other Mitama, Kushi Mitama has one randomized weakness, resists Almighty, and negates the rest, including Ailments. To find the weakness without wasting Press Turns, a Spyglass is normally needed; otherwise, a demon that is specifically created to Pierce resistances is in order. Their damage multiplier against weaknesses is roughly x9, greatly amplified compared to normal demons.
When defeated, Kushi Mitama drops Gospels, consumable items that fill the protagonist's EXP bar, making them level up upon the next battle.
Normally having a sporadic spawn rate, the Mitama Dance of EXP DLC offers an option to dramatically increase the spawn rate for both Kushi Mitama and Ara Mitama, installing a togglable option in the Options menu once purchased and downloaded.
Devil Summoner: Soul Hackers[]
Fusing any demon with a Kusi Mitama will amplify its Magic and maximum MP stats, increasing its usefulness as a magic caster. This can be freely done at the Goumaden, or with COMP Fusion, provided that the Steiner app is installed.
Soul Hackers 2[]
"One of the four great aspects of Shinto that shapes all souls. Like the other Mitama, many theories have been developed regarding its role. Its supernatural powers have been said to cause miracles, unify things that were once broken, and even grant one the powers of "wisdom, skill, and observation." Scholar Motoori Norinaga believed that the names of Kushi Mitama, Saki Mitama, or Nigi Mitama represented functions rather than individual spirits."
—Soul Hackers 2 demon info
Kushi Mitama is a demon of the Mitama race and can be fused at the Cirque du Goumaden after being unlocked for fusion by completing the "Retrieve Orb Crystaloid Gamma" Aion Directive. The quest will complete after collecting 8 Orb Crystaloid Gamma and Ringo can then fuse Kushi Mitama after reaching Level 41. Kushi Mitama can be summoned by fusing two members of the Element race together, through a combination of Melon Frost x Lemon Frost or B Hawaii Frost or Strawberry Frost.
When Kushi Mitama is used in fusion, the resulting demon will be the same demon as the non-Mitama fusion component. This demon will receive bonuses to AGI and LUK from being fused with Kushi Mitama, and Kushi Mitama can be used to pass on skills to the demon being leveled up.
Persona 5[]
"One of the four aspects of Shinto thought, it uses its power to bring good omens. It is said to aid in one's wisdom, observation, and skill, and can mend fractured paths."
Kushi Mitama is now the first Persona of the Councillor Arcana, it had its level lowered from 14 to 12 and it cannot learn Bufu via level up anymore, with Dia taking its place. When itemized through Electric Chair execution, Kushi Mitama will now yield the Aid Charmaccessory, which allows the wearer to use Dia. During a fusion alarm, Kushi Mitama will yield the Spiral Aid Charm accessory instead, which allows the wearer to use Media.
Digital Devil Saga: Avatar Tuner[]
Kusi Mitama, along with the other Mitamas, can only be encountered at the end of a Field Hunt. Kusi Mitama only appear in the Field Hunt area of Svadhisthana. They are weak to Force attacks and using this to frighten and devour them before they can flee is the best strategy for defeating them. Even when frightened, they can boost their stats using Tarukaja, Rakukaja, Sukukaja or Makakaja to reduce the party's ability to damage them.
Digital Devil Saga: Avatar Tuner 2[]
Just like the first game, Kusi Mitama can only be encountered at the end of a Field Hunt. Kusi Mitama appear in the Field Hunt area of the EGG Installation (first visit only). Their stats, and by extension the strategy for defeating them, remains largely unchanged aside from a reduced HP stat and an added resistance to Almighty attacks.
Devil Survivor 2[]
Like all the other Mitamas, fusion for Kusi Mitama can only be unlocked in a New Game Plus.
