Ah, Shin Megami Tensei II. It's better than the first three games in the 20 year old innovator that is the Megaten series. It introduced new gameplay elements, minigames (accessible via the Casino), and it introduced new demons that have become all but commonplace in the series. But, this masterpiece never made it outside Japan. I wonder why? Well, I'm assuming Atlus knew that the level of religious connotations (even going as far as making God the final boss) would cause at least some outrage in the West.

With all the formalities out of the way, given that it is implied that the Law alignment is evil and that the Chaos alignment is good, would Shin Megami Tensei II have been the most controversial game in the series? GrassoLife 18:33, July 29, 2010 (UTC)

I don't know. What really hits the West hard is if Jesus got that treatment. There was nothing we could say was like Jesus until Persona 3's Messiah. I'm thinking there less outrage because Christians focus more on Jesus than God, they even mention, or even refer to, God less than his son. GalaxiaWild 18:38, July 29, 2010 (UTC)

I think it depend's more on what God itself would represent to an individual, as to a whole group. Japan probably thought that "God" was something entirely different than what we would think since they have a multiple amount of gods and goddesses, some of them evil, some good. America however, only believes in 1 so we would view it as Bad-Mouthing our god. If you ask me, i don't think it really matters Silenthillfan1983 11:27, July 30, 2010 (UTC)

I always saw it as more of neutral being the lighter shade of gray compared to almost black for chaos/law. I mean seriously, a genocidal death ray? That's not exactly brotherly love coming from the head of the law faction. :P I always thought the point of the series was that extremists can justify anything with reasoning based on hatred.

Chaos gets their own little death toy with the giant worm. I just played through on law's side but I'm probably going to try the neutral side next since Chaos seems to be about as morally corrupt... It's funny how Lucifer is all smiles and politeness until you tell him you refuse to kill everyone in Center. hehe A-hats and D-bags all around in that c-sack world! 71.196.246.113 10:35, July 30, 2011 (UTC)
