In Shin Megami Tensei III: Nocturne, the True Demon Ending has Lucifer and the Hito-Shura destroy the cycle of rebirth and cause the collapse of the universe to begin the final battle against YHVH. All I want to know is why? In previous games, all he wanted to do was to defeat YHVH to free the demons and give that freedom to humans. But here, what are Lucifer's motivations for destroying the universe, and what does he hope to gain? GalaxiaWild 22:00, October 26, 2011 (UTC)

Lucifer never cared about humanity, and only sides with them either out of obligation (such as in Strange Journey) or necessity. The only consistent motivation of Lucifer throughout the series is wanting to defeat YHVH. Presumably, while creating a world of Chaos is a important goal to Lucifer, if he has to give it up to destroy YHVH once and for all, he'd do it in a heartbeat. Maybe he presumes if he takes YHVH's place, he can make the world of Chaos in a instant? Or would he be content with finally having his long sought revenge?--Otherarrow 00:48, October 27, 2011 (UTC)

But then why does he always consistently promise freedom to humans, as well as demons? And do you presume world of Chaos be like after what happens in Nocturne? GalaxiaWild 08:38, October 27, 2011 (UTC)

If Lucifer never cared about humanity, and was really just manipulating the protagonist, and if he was still just the same fallen angel looking for converts for his army, then does that mean he was lying about his promises of freedom, and the promises of freedom in the Chaos alignment? Well, he might have not been lying the "Freedom" promise he gives. Just think about it, in a world with absolute freedon, where no laws can stop anyone, and if the demons are around, that would probably mean that demons would rule the world and humans would be preety much screwed. He only need to tempt the protagonists to assist them. As far a Nocturne goes, he doesn't even brings a world of chaos, he just heads on towards a war against god. If the endings in SMT II are int he same canon as nocturne, he should already know he can't just kill YHVH that easy. 19:23, November 07, 2011 (CST)
