General Sugawara is a character from Persona 2: Eternal Punishment.

Appearances[]

Personality[]

Sugawara is dishonest, immoral and cares for nothing other than himself. He has no loyalty towards the New World Order or the Civil Defense despite being a member of both, and only cares for his own immortality. He is also very arrogant and vain and is highly obsessed with his achievements. One of the reasons that he desperately longs for immortality is his declining health, which results in his betrayal and worse-than-murder fate by Gozen.

The transformed Sugawara kills all Tenchu soldiers around and appears before the player.

The army general of the 15th Division of Civil Defense and director of the New World Order. He was probably lured by Tatsuzou Sudou to join the Order by promising to grant him immortality due to his waning health, as evidenced by his pale and skinny face and smoking habit. It is possible that the Tenchu soldiers of NWO were also from the national defense and they joined the Order under Sugawara's command. He is also the one who conducted the development of the X-series bipedal robots with human nerve transplants.

Sugawara does not agree on the ideal and schemes of NWO. Despite his deal with NWO, Sugawara does not hesitate to criticize and satirize before Tatsuzou and other members, possibly because of his confidence over his contributions to the Order. When he follows the Order to board Torifune, the spaceship underneath Sumaru City, he is tricked by Tatsuzou and partially turned into a deformed monster by Gozen. Although he is tormented by the transformation, the monstrous part keeps regenerating itself, sustains his suffering even after being defeated by Maya Amano's group.

Battle[]

Sugawara transforms into a monster known as "Was Sugawara" (菅原だったもの?). He keeps lamenting "I-TA-E-" which means "it hurts" in Japanese language. It will recover nearly 800 HP automatically every turn, so player must deal greater damage, preferably by Fire Fusion Spells, to surpass the amount of regeneration.
