Profile[]
Megami Ibunroku Persona[]
Mai is a part of Maki's fractured consciousness created by Takahisa Kandori's interference. She first appears at the very beginning of the game asking for help after the students of class 2-4 of St. Hermelin perform the Persona Game. When Reiji Kido was sent to the realm between dimensions by Kandori, Mai was the one who sent him safely to Maki's Mikage-cho.
Later on the game, the party finds Mai inside the Gingerbread House in the Lost Forest, where she is hiding, as they need her half of the magic compact in order to enter Deva Yuga. Mai then explains that she and Aki used to be the same being, and that she was the one who created the Mikage-cho they're in. Kandori came to her after the activation of the DEVA System and Aki, her evil side, separated from her in order to aid Kandori in his plans. Depending on the Protagonist's choices, Mai will either give her half of the compact willingly or have it taken by force. Answering any of Mai's questions with incorrect answers triggers a fight against Mr. Bear and will result in a Bad Ending right after clearing Deva Yuga; the protagonist is not given any warnings nor any options to reconsider his options, so it is strongly advised to save right before entering the Gingerbread House.
After the Ideal Maki flees to the depths of Lost Forest and is rescued, Mai will then stay in the Gingerbread House keeping company to Setsuko Sonomura for the rest of the game. In the Bad Ending, Mai forcefully drags the Ideal Maki to her inner world and closes any portals leading to it.
In the Snow Queen Quest, she is found inside the Ice Castle near the end of the game, asking if the party knows of the Masked Girl's whereabouts.
Megami Ibunroku Persona Manga[]
Mai's role is identical to the game. When Naoya was sent to Maki's Mikage-cho by the DEVA System, he was transported to the Lost Forest and taken to the school by her. Later, she helps Naoya in breaking free from Kazuya Todou's illusion, but becomes scared of him and sends giant versions of her teddy bear to attack all intruders in the forest.
