Party Switch is a mechanic in Persona 5.
Appearances[]
Profile[]
Persona 5 / Royal[]
Party Switch allows any party member (except for the protagonist) to be switched out with another during battle. This mechanic is useful in switching party members who show weaknesses to certain elements or to prevent them from being knocked out if they cannot be healed in time.
The target to be switched out cannot have fainted, be Downed or suffering from a status ailment. Switching in and out also affects the EXP gain of both targets, having their result after battle cut down. Since turn order is determined and fixed at the start of the battle, the switched-in combatant will inherit the turn slot of the one they replaced. If the party is surrounded, they cannot switch out. Empty party slots can be filled in via party switch.

Initiating Hifumi Togo's Confidant unlocks the ability "Koma Sabaki." Initially, the technique can only be used during the protagonist's turn. The protagonist may only switch out one ally using this tactic, and doing so will use up his turn. If there is an empty slot in the party, the protagonist can use his turn to summon a backup ally into one empty slot. Maxing out the Star Confidant unlocks the Togo System, which grants all party members the ability to use their turn to switch themselves out with an ally.
Additionally, Futaba Sakura can offer to switch knocked out party members through her Confidant skill Emergency Shift, even while the party is being surrounded. It only works once per battle.
If the Star Confidant has been progressed further, switched out party members can perform special Follow-Up attacks.
