The PlayStation 2 (プレイステーション2?) is a video game console and successor to Sony's PlayStation. It was released in Japan in 2000 after being announced in 1999. The PlayStation 2 is part of the sixth generation of video game consoles and is the best-selling console to date. It is succeeded by the PlayStation 3.
