Vayu (ヴァーユ, Vāyu)? is a demon in the series.
History
In Hindu mythology, Vayu (also known as Pavana or Vata) is one of the primary deities in charge of the winds and air. He is the chief of the five deities of life, being in charge of mortal breathing. He is the father of Bhima and the varana hero Hanuman. He is typically depicted as a handsome man riding on a coach pulled by two, forty-nine, or one thousand white and purple horses.
It is said that the gods who control bodily functions once held a contest to determine who among them was the greatest. It was said that when a deity such as that which controls vision would leave a beings body, that being would continue to live, even if blind, until that deity returned to his duty. One after the other the deities took turns leaving the body, but the being continued to live, though impaired in various ways. Finally it was Vayu's turn to leave the body, but when he tried all the other deities began to become pulled out with him. The other deities realized at that point that they could only function when empowered by Vayu, and that without him life could not be.
In Zoroastrianism he is known as Vayu-Vata or Vata-Vayu, dual God of Wind and Atmosphere. He is both angelic (Yazata) and demonic (Daeva), but which one he is depends on the circumstances. Both parts of his name can be used separately to represent the same entity.
